94m Gas Splitter Column

Project: 94m Gas Splitter Column Maintenance

Location: Mpumalanga, South Africa

Scaffolding Solution:
For this industrial plant shutdown, TMS Industrial Services employed Layher’s Allround Lightweight scaffolding system, significantly reducing erection time while increasing efficiency. The Flexbeam and FW were used to adapt around obstacles as the structure progressed. TG 60 was used to support the Flexbeam and take load transferred from the bridging solution.

Using Layher’s Scaffolding Information Modelling (SIM) and LayPLAN CAD, the team could virtually design and test the scaffolding structure, optimizing materials and minimizing on-site adjustments. This approach also ensured that TMS could provide an accurate material list and cost estimation upfront, adding predictability to the project.

Key Savings and Improvements:

  • Time Savings: 36 weeks were saved in overall project time. Of those 36 weeks, 7 weeks were saved on the assembly alone and 30 days on modifications.
  • Access Efficiency: Provided 38 additional levels od boards, improving accessibility by 600% and enabling seamless movement across levels, further increasing productivity during maintenance.
  • Weight and Strength Advantages: Layher’s high-tensile steel scaffolding is 36% lighter yet 30% stronger, supporting additional live loads and making assembly easier to handle on-site.
  • Space Utilization: Additional 1932 square meters of platforms compared to conventional scaffolding, maximizing work area for the maintenance crew without frequent platform adjustments.

Conclusion:

Layher’s innovative solutions and robust materials continue to support plant operations across Africa by maximizing time, weight, and material savings. This approach ensures that our clients benefit from efficient, safe, and cost-effective scaffolding solutions tailored to their specific project needs.
